Target Group:
Anyone who has a fair spoken knowledge of the English Language and its Sound System and can easily discriminate sounds both word initially and word finally.
This course is suitable for any age group. However, the minimum age of a child is 5 years.
Time:
Classes are held everyday; Mondays to Fridays from 10 am to 1 pm or from 3 pm to 6 pm.

Placement Test:
Participants will be tested on their knowledge of the letter names and sounds and in their ability to communicate using simple language.
Fees:
SGD$1,000.00 for each module of 1 month (4 weeks). Total number of modules for this course = 4

Course Objectives:
Students will:
- learn how to speak English more fluently in everyday situations;
- learn how to name objects under categories, like school words, family words or beach words..
- request for something and to apologize;
- learn how to read simple words using the CVC structures;
- start reading graded readers phonetically;
- learn how to recognize the sounds of at least 40 English phonograms and become quite automatic in their responses;
- have plenty of practice reading and spelling the 100 most frequently occurring English words;
- learn how to read English words with long vowels
- be introduced to more complex English literature
Methodology:
The lessons are taught using a multi-sensory approach. The lessons are interactive and fun. Each lesson is packed with a number of activities, like listening to stories, reading books, playing language games and learning
how to read and write at least 40 English phonograms.
Students will be introduced to books during interactive story time when the teacher will read selected stories and get the pupils to respond by asking questions or talking about what they have heard. Some sight words that occur frequently will be highlighted so that pupils start building up a sight word vocabulary.
The teacher will introduce the students to more complex literature and nursery rhymes.
Course Assessment:
The teacher will monitor the students and observe their progress all the time. The teacher provides feedback to the Project Coordinator after every lesson. At the end of each term (4 weeks), this information will be summarised and given to the parents in the form of a written report. |
